Bipolar Disorder in Ohio
Regain stability with practical tools and a clear plan, so your moods stop driving your life.
Specialized Online Treatment For Bipolar Disorder
Living with extreme shifts in mood can be challenging and exhausting. The intense highs and debilitating lows can disrupt every aspect of your life, making stability feel like a distant goal.
It's so important to know that a fulfilling, stable life is entirely possible. With effective, specialized treatment, you can learn to manage your symptoms, navigate your emotions, and regain control. The first and most powerful step on this journey is to clearly understand the condition you are facing.
Bipolar Disorder is a mental health condition characterized by significant, often extreme, fluctuations in mood, energy, and the ability to function. The term “bipolar” reflects this experience of shifting between two emotional poles - the highs of mania or hypomania and the lows of depression.
These are not ordinary mood swings; they are distinct periods of intense emotion that can last for days, weeks, or even months, significantly impacting your thoughts, behaviors, and daily life.
Understanding whether you experience mania or hypomania is key, as it helps us tailor specific strategies that match the unique intensity and pattern of your mood shifts, ensuring your treatment plan is built for your reality.

Your Journey to Stability: A Clear and Collaborative Process
Starting therapy can feel uncertain, especially when you are already managing a complex condition. That is why our work together is built on a structured, transparent process. This approach serves as a clear roadmap, empowering you by showing you exactly what to expect at every stage, from our initial assessment to the successful completion of your goals.
Your path to stability is organized into four distinct, collaborative phases:
Comprehensive Assessment
Our work begins with a thorough intake interview and appropriate psychological assessments. The initial phase is dedicated to gaining a precise and holistic understanding of your unique symptoms, history, and challenges.
Collaborative Treatment Planning
Based on the assessment, we'll establish a formal diagnosis, if appropriate, and develop a clear, personalized treatment plan.
A collaborative process where we work together to define your goals and outline the specific steps and strategies we will use to achieve them.
You are an active partner in your care from day one.
Active Skill-Building
Therapy sessions are focused on learning and practicing tangible, evidence-based skills to manage your symptoms and improve your daily functioning.
We'll use ongoing assessments to measure your progress against the goals we set in your treatment plan, making adjustments as needed to ensure you are moving forward effectively and building confidence with every new tool you master.
Goal-Oriented Completion
My goal is to empower you, not to create a long-term dependency on therapy. Our work is designed to be finite and results-driven, typically not lasting longer than a year.
We know our work is done when your "toolbox is full" of practical skills, your symptoms have improved, and your quality of life has tangibly increased, equipping you for long-term self-management.
This structured, goal-oriented process is designed to produce real, measurable change. By moving systematically from understanding your challenges to building the skills to overcome them, we create a clear and effective path toward stability and recover.
My Therapeutic Approach: Practical Skills for Overwhelming Feelings
Effective therapy is more than just talking; we build a concrete action plan for the moments when your feelings become overwhelming. My therapeutic philosophy is grounded in this action-oriented approach. Real, lasting change happens in your life, not just in our sessions.
Our time together is dedicated to equipping you with the practical skills you need to navigate challenges when they arise. My primary therapeutic modalities are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). I believe that DBT is the instruction manual for CBT. It provides the foundational skills like staying our of your head, building tolerance, staying calm no matter what is happening, and learning how to speak out without going nuclear.
These skills are simple in theory but can be incredibly challenging to implement, especially when your brain feels wired to terrorize your Central Nervous System. My role is to guide and support you in mastering them.
This skill-building approach is informed by the pioneering clinical work of Marsha Linehan and Bessel van der Kolk, as well as the practical strategies of thought leaders like Mel Robbins.
Our work will be active and focused. We don't sit and 'chit chat' and then the learning shuts down. Change happens outside of our sessions, so come ready to really work. This dedicated, skills-based approach ensures that you leave therapy not just feeling understood, but fully equipped to manage your life with confidence.
The Benefits of Virtual Therapy for Bipolar Disorder
Life in Ohio puts demands on our time and energy that can be immense. Virtual therapy has emerged as a powerful, modern solution that removes critical barriers to receiving consistent, high-quality mental health care, especially for those who are already struggling with the energy-depleting effects of a mood disorder.
For managing Bipolar Disorder, virtual therapy is just as effective as in-person therapy. The evidence is clear. It offers the same evidence-based strategies and dedicated professional support, but with a structure that fits into the realities of modern life.
You may be raising kids, managing a demanding job, running a home, and paying bills, all while carrying the heavy emotional burden of current world events and navigating personal crises. For someone whose day-to-day functioning is already compromised by mood episodes, the logistical challenge of traveling to a weekly appointment can be an insurmountable barrier.
Virtual therapy removes that barrier and provides a reliable, accessible, and private way to engage in treatment from the comfort of your own space, on your own schedule. This consistency is key to making progress, ensuring that you can receive the high-quality care you deserve without adding another layer of stress to your life.

"Terri is fantastic, amazing, incredible, awesome!!!! I miss her!!! She’s so good at what she does that I got better and don’t need therapy (for now—knock on wood!). I truly feel she was born to do this work. She is so genuinely caring and encouraging! I can’t say enough good things about her. She was above and beyond for me. I would highly recommend her to anyone who is struggling and needs a kind ear, a professional mind, and a big heart! ❤ A++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++"

• Send private, secure messages directly to me between sessions
Session Lengths: I offer several session lengths to accommodate different needs and insurance coverage options:
• 60 minutes
• 45 minutes
• 30 minutes
With the logistical hurdles cleared, the path is open for you to focus on the most important part of this journey: your own commitment to the work ahead.
Your Commitment: Are You Ready for the "Action" Stage?
Finding the right therapist with an effective approach is a critical part of recovery, but the ultimate catalyst for change is your own readiness to engage in the process. Therapy is an active partnership, and your motivation and commitment are the most powerful tools we have.
It can be helpful to think about this journey in terms of the "stages of change." Before you begin, I encourage you to reflect: What do you truly want to get out of the time, energy, and cost of therapy at this moment in your life? Are you ready to move beyond contemplation and into meaningful work?
The primary goal of our work together is to move you firmly into the "action" stage of change. This is the stage where you begin to actively implement new skills, modify behaviors, and build the life you want.
While I will provide the tools, guidance, and unwavering support, the power to create lasting change lies with you. It is up to you to commit to the process, to show up ready to work, and to act on what you learn in our sessions. Your readiness is the key that unlocks the door to stability.
