Find a Trusted Psychiatrist in Ohio
Gain access to licensed psychiatrists, nurse practitioners (PMHNPs), and psychiatric physician assistants either online or in-person
What Is A Psychiatric Referral?
Are you looking for a psychiatrist in Columbus, Cincinnati, Dayton, Toledo, Akron, or Canton?
I often hear that it's hard to find a psychiatrist in Ohio. I can refer you to a licensed pshychiatric provider in your area. If you live in or near a larger city there are in-person options. If you don't there telehealth options. Telehealth providers offer all of the same services that an in-person provider offers.
I will give you referral options based on your insurance, or out of pocket services, either in-person or online where you'll always get a cost estimate before your appointment.
If you're seeking a psychiatric evaluation for ADHD or mood disorders, or medication management, book a session with me and let's get started! If you're not sure or have questions, I offer a Free 15 minute consultation so you can get the answers you need to move forward.

A PSYCHIATRIC REFERRAL THROUGH MY PRACTICE IS NOT APPROPRIATE FOR PEOPLE IN CRISIS. I AM NOT A CRISIS COUNSELOR AND MY PRACTICE IS NOT SET UP FOR CRISIS COUNSELING. PLEASE CALL 911, CALL OR TEXT 988, OR GO TO YOUR NEAREST EMERGENCY ROOM IF YOU ARE CURRENTLY IN CRISIS.
How It Works
Book An Intake: Go to Headway, check your insurance coverage and out of pocket costs, get an estimate, and book your session with me.
Discuss Your Needs: During our first sessions, we’ll work collaboratively to determine if psychiatric care is right for you. If you are in crisis you will not be a good fit for a referral through my practice. Call 911, call or text 988, or go to your nearest emergency room.

"Terri is fantastic, amazing, incredible, awesome!!!! I miss her!!! She’s so good at what she does that I got better and don’t need therapy (for now—knock on wood!). I truly feel she was born to do this work. She is so genuinely caring and encouraging! I can’t say enough good things about her. She was above and beyond for me. I would highly recommend her to anyone who is struggling and needs a kind ear, a professional mind, and a big heart! ❤ A++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++"

Bonus: Integrated Care
You and I will work as a team with a psych provider who is:
Licensed mental health professionals including psychiatrists, nurse practitioners (PMHNPs), and psychiatric physician assistants
Credentialed and verified by Headway
Able to prescribe medication (if licensed to do so)
Often in-network with major insurance providers, making care more accessible
Available via telehealth and/or in-person depending on the provider and your location (e.g., Columbus, Cincinnati, Dayton, etc.)
As your therapist, my role is to help coordinate care that supports your overall mental health, including connecting you with psychiatric providers when medication evaluation or management may be beneficial.
If medication support might be helpful for what you’re experiencing, I can help you take the right steps to get connected with a psychiatric provider, without you having to navigate it alone.
My role begins with a thorough intake and targeted clinical assessments so we have a clear picture of your symptoms, history, and treatment needs. If you’re trying to access a psychiatrist for medication management, I can facilitate that connection through Headway, my third-party insurance processor.
I'll match you with coordinated psychiatric care that I know already accepts your insurance, so your therapy and prescribing care can stay aligned. If you're paying out of pocket you'll get an estimate of how much it will cost before you schedule.
The goal is continuity of care: clear clinical information, coordinated support, and a smoother path to the right level of treatment.

Reasons You May Benefit From Psychiatry
We coordinate psychiatric referrals through your insurance plan so you can stay in continuity of care with a qualified prescribing professional for an evaluation and, if appropriate, medication management for your concern.

Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the difference between a therapist and a psychiatrist?
A therapist provides counseling and skills-based treatment; a psychiatrist is a medical provider who can evaluate for and prescribe psychiatric medications (and may also provide therapy, depending on the provider).
When should I see a psychiatrist instead of only doing therapy?
Consider psychiatry when symptoms are moderate/severe, persistent, affecting safety or daily functioning, or when medication evaluation could help alongside therapy.
Can a therapist prescribe medication? (and why that matters for referrals)
No - therapists don’t prescribe medication, so if medication management is part of your care plan, you’ll need a referral to a prescribing provider (psychiatrist or other qualified prescriber).
What happens after you submit my psychiatry referral?
You’ll receive next steps to schedule with a psychiatric provider who takes your insurance, and we’ll keep your care coordinated while you move through that process.
How long does it take to get a psychiatry appointment?
It varies by availability and insurance networks, some people get in within days to up to two weeks. Headway makes it easy to better match your schedule to that of a provider.
What should I expect at my first psychiatry appointment?
A focused evaluation of symptoms, history, medical factors, and goals; you’ll discuss options, and if appropriate, you may receive a medication plan with follow-up scheduling.
Can I stay in therapy while starting medication management?
Yes, therapy and medication work best together, especially when you’re learning skills while symptoms are stabilizing.
How do therapy and medication work together for continuity of care?
Therapy builds coping skills, behavior change, and insight, while medication (when appropriate) can reduce symptom intensity, together they support steadier progress with coordinated treatment goals
