As your therapist, my role is to help coordinate care that supports your overall mental health, including connecting you with psychiatric providers when medication evaluation or management may be beneficial.
What is a psychiatric referral?
A psychiatric referral is a professional recommendation to see a licensed provider—such as a psychiatrist or psychiatric nurse practitioner—for services like evaluations or medication management. I provide referrals through Headway, which connects you with trusted providers across Ohio.
How do I know if I need a psychiatrist?
You might benefit from seeing a psychiatrist if you're experiencing symptoms such as persistent anxiety, depression, mood changes, sleep issues, or if you're exploring whether medication could support your mental health. We’ll discuss this together in therapy before making a referral.
Can I get referred to a psychiatrist in my city?
Yes. Referrals are available to providers in:
Columbus
Cincinnati
Dayton
Akron
Canton
If you live in the larger cities and looking for a psychiatrist in Columbus Ohio or a psychiatrist in Dayton Ohio, Headway will match you with local options based on your needs and insurance. You'll have in-person and virtual options.
If you don't live near a larger city you'll have virtual options and will get the same services and the same level of care as if you were visiting in-office.
Are the psychiatric appointments virtual or in person?
Most providers offer virtual (telehealth) appointments. However, some offer in-person sessions—especially in larger cities like Columbus and Cincinnati. You can choose based on what works best for you.
Do Headway providers accept insurance?
Yes. Most Headway providers accept a wide range of insurance plans. When you're matched with a provider, you’ll be able to view their accepted insurances before booking.
What happens after I’m referred?
Once I submit your referral:
Headway will send you a message via text or email
You’ll receive a personalized list of providers in your area
You can book directly through Headway’s secure platform
Is my information shared with anyone?
Your referral information is handled securely through Headway. You will be notified before any communication, and nothing is shared without your consent.
What if I’m in crisis?
If you are experiencing a mental health emergency, such as thoughts of self-harm or harm to others, please call 988, go to the nearest emergency room, or contact emergency services. This referral process is not designed for urgent or crisis care.

How It Works
Book An Intake: Go to Headway, check your insurance coverage and out of pocket costs, get an estimate, and book your session with me.
Discuss Your Needs: During our first sessions, we’ll work collaboratively to determine if psychiatric care is right for you. If you are in crisis you will not be a good fit for a referral through my practice. Call 911, call or text 988, or go to your nearest emergency room.
Personalized Referral: If you're an appropriate fit, I’ll submit a referral through Headway, and you'll receive matches with local psychiatric providers.
Direct Communication: Headway will contact you via email or text, sending a list of psychiatrists in your city who take your insurance, if applicable.
Appointment Booking: You choose the provider and book an appointment that fits your schedule right on the Headway platform.
Your Treatment Team: You'll have your mental health treatment team in one place!
