Frequently Asked Questions
My role is to help you understand how ADHD shows up in your life and guide you in building practical skills — not just coping strategies. I’m not a referee or prescriber, but a partner in helping you gain control of your focus, organization, and emotions so you can thrive in work, relationships, and personal growth.
Do you offer ADHD testing for adults?
Yes. I complete a comprehensive ADHD diagnostic assessment designed to help adults gain clarity about their symptoms.
Not all focus issues are caused by Attention Deficit Disorder. Anxiety, depression, addiction, and other medical conditions can cause our brain to become inattentive or forgetful.
If ADHD is confirmed after ruling other root causes out, we move straight into counseling to build skills for managing focus, organization, and emotional regulation.
I'll provide a Diagnostic Assessment within 14 days for you to share with your prescriber and decide if medication is right for you.
What happens during an ADHD evaluation?
An ADHD evaluation includes a structured interview, symptom checklists, and a review of your history. The goal is to understand your unique challenges and provide a clear path forward—whether that’s counseling, skill-building, or referrals for additional care.
How is ADHD counseling different from medication management?
Medication can help with focus, but counseling addresses the behavioral and emotional side of ADHD. Through counseling, you’ll learn strategies for organization, time management, and improving relationships—skills that last a lifetime.
Where can I get ADHD testing near me in Columbus, Ohio?
You can schedule an ADHD evaluation directly through my practice. Testing and counseling are integrated so you won’t feel lost after diagnosis—you’ll have immediate support to start addressing your challenges.
Can ADHD counseling help if I don’t want medication?
Absolutely. Many adults prefer behavioral counseling over medication, or they combine the two. Counseling gives you practical tools for daily life, like managing distractions, reducing stress, and improving focus.
How do I know if I should get tested for ADHD?
If you struggle with focus, time management, impulsivity, or keeping up with daily tasks despite your best efforts, an ADHD evaluation may help. Testing gives you clarity—and counseling provides the tools to make real change.

Considering ADHD Counseling and Medication Management
ADHD counseling and medication management serve different but complementary roles in treatment.
Counseling focuses on addressing the emotional, behavioral, and social aspects of ADHD through strategies like cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), skill-building, and support for managing time, relationships, and self-esteem.
In contrast, medication management involves the use of prescribed drugs—typically stimulants or non-stimulants—to target the biological basis of ADHD, such as neurotransmitter imbalances.
While counseling helps individuals develop coping mechanisms, medication works to improve focus and reduce impulsivity, making counseling more effective when used together.

How Individual ADHD Counseling Works
The first session we'll do a thorough intake that will include a structured interview and some testing for symptoms of ADHD.
During the second session we'll review the results of the full assessment. At that time I'll suggest a treatment plan if your assessment indicates ADHD.
You'll receive a copy of the full assessment results and the treatment plan, which will include an option for a referral to a prescriber to discuss medication management.
The treatment plan will also include a plan for individual counseling to target your specific challenges: procrastination, disorganization, forgetfulness, and emotional regulation.
You’ll learn evidence-based behavioral strategies tailored for ADHD so you can manage stress, boost productivity, and improve your relationships.
