Affair Recovery Counselors for Couples Who Want a Real Path Forward

Affair recovery isn’t about rushing to forgiveness or pretending it didn’t happen.  Also, I want to be really clear - I do NOT play the blame game nor do I judge.

Repair is about being honest and consistent. In infidelity couples counseling, we focus on what actually rebuilds safety: truth, accountability, boundaries, and communication that doesn’t retraumatize.

If you’re looking for couples counseling for affairs, marital counseling for infidelity, or marriage counseling for infidelity recovery, our work is structured so you’re not guessing what to do between emotional blowups.

If you're open to virtual therapy for your convenience schedule a FREE 15 minute consultation and see if it's right for you. No pressure!

Cheating Therapy That Helps You Stop Overthinking and Start Rebuilding Trust

After betrayal, your brain tries to protect you by scanning for danger by replaying conversations, imagining details, checking, asking the same questions, and spiraling late at night.

Cheating therapy helps you interrupt that loop without minimizing the pain. You’ll learn practical tools for triggers, intrusive thoughts, emotional regulation, and conversations that create clarity instead of chaos, so trust can be rebuilt through repeated behavior, not repeated promises.

Therapist Specializing in Infidelity and the Repair Work That Actually Matters

A therapist specializing in infidelity helps you work on the parts that make or break recovery:

  • How remorse is shown

  • How defensiveness and blame cycles stop

  • How transparency is handled

  • How emotional safety is rebuilt day by day

If you’re the betrayed partner, we work on steadiness, boundaries, and self-trust.

If you’re the partner who crossed the line, we focus on repair behaviors, accountability, and learning how to hold the impact without shutting down or getting reactive - because that’s what makes reconciliation possible when it’s the goal.

Columbus, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Toledo, and Dayton—Virtual Support Across Ohio

You don’t need an in-person office to get consistent, high-quality help.

Great Lakes Counseling Group offers online infidelity counseling across Ohio, including Columbus, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Toledo, and Dayton.

If you searched for an “infidelity therapist near me,” “infidelity counselors near me,” or even a “couples therapist Columbus Ohio,” virtual sessions let you get support without commutes, waiting rooms, or scheduling chaos - so you can stay consistent and make real progress where it matters most: at home, in real life, in the moments that usually fall apart.

My Role in Affair Recovery Counseling

My role in affair recovery is to provide a structured, emotionally safe process without playing the blame game. I’m not here to judge who is right or wrong, good or bad, or to “take sides.” I'm not a mediator or a referee either; you'll argue on your own time.

I also can’t repair your relationship for you.

What I do is give each partner the tools, training, and clear framework needed to repair: communication skills that don’t retraumatize, boundaries that protect healing, emotional regulation during hard conversations, and concrete steps for rebuilding trust through consistent behavior.

What each of you does with those tools is entirely up to you.

There are also clear barriers to effective couples work: if the affair is still active, I can’t help you as a couple. If one partner is suicidal or severely depressed, we won’t do affair recovery together until that person has individual support in place. And if there is ongoing lying, substance abuse, or emotional or physical abuse, those issues must be addressed first, because healing can’t happen without honesty and basic safety.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to recover from infidelity?

Recovery timelines vary. It often depends on the type of affair, how the truth came out, how consistent repair efforts are, and whether both partners are willing to do the work. Therapy helps you create a realistic path instead of guessing week to week.

Is it possible to forgive a cheater?

Sometimes, yes—but forgiveness is a process, not a demand. In counseling, we focus on safety, accountability, and repair first. Forgiveness, if it happens, tends to come later as trust is rebuilt.

How do you survive an affair if you want to stay together?

You survive by stabilizing the crisis, setting clear boundaries, restoring honesty, and learning to talk about the betrayal without repeating the injury. Therapy gives you structure so you’re not trying to “figure it out” during emotional floods.

How do I deal with an unfaithful husband (or partner) right now?

Start with stabilizing you: support, sleep, food, clear boundaries, and a plan for hard moments. Then we work on what you need to feel safe enough to decide next steps—whether that’s reconciliation, separation, or clarity.

How do we reconnect after an affair without forcing it?

Reconnection happens in small, consistent steps—truth, empathy, boundaries, and repair behaviors that repeat over time. We focus on rebuilding emotional safety first, then gradually restoring closeness in a way that feels respectful and real.
