Frequently Asked Questions
My role as your counselor is not to referee a fight or sit through a “he said, she said” argument. Affair recovery is much deeper than keeping score.
I guide both partners through a structured process where accountability, honesty, and empathy take center stage. That means helping the unfaithful partner take responsibility without defensiveness and supporting the betrayed partner in expressing their pain without it becoming destructive.
My job is to create a safe space where both of you can do the hard work of healing—not to play referee in a blame game.
Q: What if I’m not sure I want to stay in the relationship?
A: If you’re unsure about your future after an affair, Discernment Counseling may be a better first step.
It helps couples decide whether to repair the relationship or separate, while reducing conflict and confusion.
Q: How much does affair recovery counseling cost?
A: For private pay clients, sessions are $160 for individuals and $180 for couples. I also offer 45-minute ($120) and 30-minute ($80) sessions to individuals to fit your schedule and budget.
Insurance through Headway may reduce your out-of-pocket cost.
Q: Do you accept insurance for affair recovery counseling?
A: Yes. I accept insurance through Headway, a third party administrator that makes it simple to use your benefits for counseling in Ohio.
You can quickly check if your plan covers online sessions by clicking here.
Q: Is online affair recovery counseling effective?
A: Yes. Research shows that online counseling is just as effective as in-person therapy.
I like virtual counseling because it affords the couple time to talk immediately after the session is over in their home.
It also offers privacy, flexibility, and convenience—helping couples focus on healing without the stress of commuting.
Q: What are the stages of affair recovery?
A: Affair recovery often follows three key stages: Atonement, Attunement, and Attachment.
In Atonement, the partner who had the affair takes full responsibility and shows honesty and remorse.
In Attunement, couples learn to communicate openly, listen deeply, and rebuild emotional safety.
Finally, in Attachment, trust and intimacy grow again, creating a stronger and healthier bond for the future.
Q: What is betrayal trauma and how do you heal it?
A: Betrayal trauma is the emotional impact caused by discovering infidelity. It can feel like shock, anger, grief, or even symptoms of PTSD.
The betrayed partner tends to feel a deep sense of loss of emotional safety, which translates to rage. The cheater leans into defensiveness and often wants to "move on."
Healing betrayal trauma involves safety, open communication, and structured counseling that helps partners process their pain while rebuilding trust.
Q: How long does it take to recover from an affair?
A: Healing after infidelity doesn’t happen overnight. It does happen over time.
On average, it takes 6–18 months of intentional work for couples to process betrayal, rebuild trust, and feel safe again. With affair recovery counseling, couples move through the process with guidance rather than guessing.
Q: Can a marriage survive infidelity?
A: Yes, marriages do survive cheating. It requires quick and early action on the part of the cheater.
A common pitfall I see regularly is where the cheater withholds or downplays the depth and the frequency in which they've interacted with the affair partner. The betrayed partner usually does a good bit of digging and uncovers evidence that differs from what the cheater has shared.
Successful affair recovery requires honesty, transparency, and long-term effort. Affair recovery counseling gives couples the structure, tools, and accountability needed to rebuild trust and intimacy after betrayal.

"Terri is fantastic, amazing, incredible, awesome!!!! I miss her!!! She’s so good at what she does that I got better and don’t need therapy (for now—knock on wood!). I truly feel she was born to do this work. She is so genuinely caring and encouraging! I can’t say enough good things about her. She was above and beyond for me.
